Timber plays an important role in Crossett's history and economy. This southeast Arkansas town---only nine miles from the Louisiana border---has been the home of lumber-related companies since 1899. But the area's natural resources also offer a wealth of outdoor experiences. Crossett is near two national wildlife refuges with opportunities for hiking, hunting and fishing. Closer to local accommodations is Crossett City Park, with a concrete walking path and the Crossland Zoo.

Room amenities include refrigerators, microwaves, cable television and high-speed Internet. If you want a room with a king-size bed, the hotel says you should reserve it ahead of time, as most guest rooms have double beds. Pets may stay at this Americas Best Value Inn for a nightly charge. The hotel is less than a half mile from the 110-acre Crossett City Park. Besides the walking trail and zoo, the park has a fishing pond and picnic tables.

Ashley Inn serves free coffee and pastries from 5 a.m. to 9 a.m. McDonald's, a Chinese restaurant and a Southern-style diner are within walking distance. Ashley Inn has free wireless high-speed Internet access and copy and fax services. The hotel doesn't allow pets. Rooms have either two double beds or one king-size bed. Most rooms have microwaves and refrigerators. Ashley Inn is six and a half miles from Felsenthal National Wildlife Refuge, which has trails, fishing spots and camping sites. Levee Inn

Staying at Levee Inn puts you 30 miles from Overflow National Wildlife Refuge near Parkdale, Arkansas. The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service says the refuge has 15,000 visitors a year; activities include hiking and bird watching. The hotel remodeled its guest rooms in 2009, replacing carpets and furniture. Beds range from singles up to king size. Each room has a refrigerator and microwave. Levee Inn is about a mile north of the main part of town and local restaurants, but a grocery store is a short walk away. The hotel has free high-speed Internet and---for a nightly fee---welcomes pets. Children 10 years of age and under stay free at Levee Inn.
