Island Lake is close to the cities of Crystal Lake, McHenry and Mundelein in northern Illinois. Area attractions include 3-D Bowling and Sideouts, an outdoor beach ball facility, and the Pistakee Bog Nature Preserve, where visitors can view native prairie gardens and the wildlife that lives amongst them while hiking. For extra recreation, you can take the family to the Lippold Park Family Golf Center in Crystal Lake. If you are in the mood for some Italian cuisine, although Island Lake itself has no Italian restaurants, there are some nearby with meals to satisfy your taste buds.

Nick's Pizza & Pub

Nick's Pizza & Pub is just 8 miles away from Island Lake in Crystal Lake. Nick's purpose is "to provide you with a place to connect with your family and friends, to have fun and feel at home." Frequent diners can earn points in return for a meal voucher--one point for every dollar spent--and once they earn 350 points, a $25 voucher is issued. The menu offers specialty pizza choices such as Margherita, Hawaiian, veggie, and Mexican as well as more common pizza choices. Other items include calzones, Italian beef and sausage, meatball sandwiches, Nick's super Italian sub, and buffalo chicken wrap. Salad choices include an Italian chopped salad and Nick's grilled chicken and cheddar salad. The pub is open Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and on Fridays and Saturdays until midnight.

Georgio's Chicago Pizzeria is located in downtown Crystal Lake. Cucina Bella Due is located in Crystal Lake across from the Metra Northwest train station. Your Italian dinner can begin with tasty appetizers such as stuffed mushrooms, bruschetta and Bellas rings. Pasta lovers can enjoy linguine, penne, rigatoni and capellini and can add sauces like marinara, alfredo, carbonara and vodka. Other dishes include chicken marsala, pork chops with peppers, medallions with broccoli, and fresh fish of the day. Take-out is also available. Every Friday, guests can enjoy a $5 martini. The restaurant opens at 4 p.m. daily for dinner and at 11 a.m. for lunch on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.
