Tanah Abang is a popular district in Jakarta, Indonesia. A 45-minute drive takes you to the Bogor Botanical Gardens, which, with its 80 hectares of plant, bird and bat species, is part of the Presidential Palace. The Istiqlal Mosque is a 15-minute drive and is located across the street from St. Mary's Cathedral. Tour Fatahillah Square; catch a traditional shadow puppet show or visit one of the three historical museums nearby. Take a day trip to the Thousand Islands in the Java Sea where you can be diving and snorkeling within a half-hour drive. Visit the National Monument only 10 minutes away and take a lift to the top of the 137-meter obelisk to view the expanse of the city.
