Golden Gate Park
Golden Gate Park is a thriving area, full of beautiful scenery and attractions. Stretching over 1,000 acres, the park offers many points of interest for outdoor enthusiasts, such as Strawberry Hill, a beautiful island in the middle of Stow Lake. Strawberry Hill measures 430 feet, and as the park's highest point this is the place that offers the parks most stunning views, allowing visitors to take in the scenery of Mount Tamalpais and the Golden Gate Bridge. Reach the peak of the hill from hiking trails that begin at the scenic Rustic Bridge or Roman Bridge. Boat rentals are available at Stow Lake as another way of experiencing this beautiful area.
Alcatraz island
Boat and aerial tours are available to world-renowned Alcatraz island. The island is known as "The Rock" and has served as a lighthouse, a military base and prison, and, perhaps most famously, as a federal prison housing highly dangerous and feared criminals. Renowned criminals such as gangster Al Capone and George "Machine Gun" Kelly served time inside the walls of Alcatraz. The ferry ride out and tour of the facility and island are filled with intrigue and history.
Pier 39
Pier 39 is San Francisco's premier bay attraction and provides outdoor enthusiasts with a beautiful scenic walk. By walking on the bay you can take in the sights of Alcatraz, the Golden Gate Bridge, the Bay Bridge and Fisherman's Wharf as well as a beautiful view of the city skyline. Attractions that can be taken in on the pier include the Aquarium of the Bay, Blazing Saddles Bike Tours, the Rocketboat, sea lions and shows provided by a range of entertaining and original street performers.
The Presidio
The Presidio is a national park and a recreational paradise for outdoor enthusiasts. Beautiful walking trails incorporate historical landmarks and architectural masterpieces, such as The Spire, a breathtaking sculpture designed to tell the story of the forest. A dozen trails cross the Presidio, including the California Coastal trail, the Bay Area Ridge trail and the Juan Bautista de Anze National historic trail.
