Restaurants in Greenback, Sacramento
Greenback Lane spans a wide swath of east Sacramento, running perpendicular to Interstate 80 through Citrus Heights and Orangevale until it ends in Folsom. It's easy to find chain restaurants and fast-food outposts here, but there are also plenty of locally owned places, featuring everything from American to Thai to Brazilian cuisine. Known to the locals as "Greenback," this area is near the American River Bike Trail, with more than 31 miles of paved trail, as well as Folsom Lake, where you can hike, bike, camp or windsurf.

Sudwerk Riverside

Located in upscale Folsom, Sudwerk Riverside is a popular place to sip a tasty microbrew and enjoy the view from the terrace. Most locals come for the hand-crafted beer and the best way to try them all is the Sudwerk Taster Set, with samples of the Pilsner, Hefeweizen, Marzen, Lager and more.

Appetizers range from Italian-influenced (bruschetta and fried calamari) to Asian (avocado eggrolls) to American (wings and garlic fries). Entrees include steak, chicken, pasta, seafood and Angus beef burgers. Look for items with Sudwerk beer in the recipe, such as the tri-tip sandwich with Marzen barbecue sauce or the Marzen beer-battered onion rings. Enjoy the terrace view during happy hour, or come for a leisurely Sunday brunch. The restaurant is open daily for lunch and dinner, with extended hours on Friday and Saturday nights.

Bamiyan Afghan Restaurant

With two locations in the Sacramento area, Bamiyan Afghan Restaurant offers authentic Afghan food in a warm, welcoming setting, filled with the fragrance of cilantro, garlic and coriander. At this Citrus Heights location, the walls are draped with Afghan carpets, and beneath the glass tabletops you'll find more traditional Afghan weavings, Afghan currency and more. The atmosphere is casual yet exotic, making it ideal for dates or family gatherings.

Appetizers include traditional samosas (fried dough filled with spiced veggies), kebabs and ashak (boiled dumplings topped with beef, veggies and yogurt sauce). Each entree comes with Afghan rice, veggies and bread. You can choose a traditional grilled kebab, Afghan dumplings, or from a wide variety of vegetarian rice and vegetable dishes. If you have room for dessert, try the kaimak chaiy (Afghan chai tea) or Turkish coffee, flavored with cardamom. The restaurant is open for dinner Monday through Saturday and is closed on Sunday.

Blue Nami Sushi

A lunchtime favorite for locals, Blue Nami Sushi has an extensive menu with towering rolls, sashimi, and nigiri sushi. The restaurant and its sister location in Roseville have won several awards, including 2nd place for Best Restaurant in Roseville, awarded by the Sacramento News & Review in 2008, and the Best of Roseville 2008 Japanese Restaurant award from the US Local Business Association.

Appetizers range from traditional edamame and gyoza to deep-fried tofu and the popular "chicken bomb"---chicken marinated in a special sweet and spicy sauce. You'll get a kick out of the house rolls, with cheeky names like "Sexy French," "Yellow-Belly" and the "James Bomb." With accents including torched garlic, wasabi, ginger, sesame and orange, the rolls offer a variety of sweet and spicy flavors. For those who aren't partial to seafood, the menu also offers choices such as chicken teriyaki, sesame chicken and tonkatsu (deep-fried pork cutlet).
