Altus is part of the Fort Smith, Ark.-Okla., metropolitan area and is located in the Boston Mountain range between the Ozark Mountains and the Ouachita Mountains. Although the small town only has a population of 817, it is quite famous for being the wine-making capital of Arkansas and has some of the oldest wineries in the Midwest, including the Wiederker Wine Cellars and Post Familie Vineyards. For those visitors looking for a golf vacation, the Eagle Crest Golf Course is located just a few miles away in Alma, and several other golf courses are in nearby Fort Smith.

The Wine Country Cottage

The Wine Country Cottage can be found in heart of Altus next to St. Mary's Mountain. The three-bedroom cottage is decorated with Victorian furniture and provides a fully equipped kitchen, television, heating and air-conditioning, a large deck, barbecue grill, DVD player, CD player and laundry room. The cottage is within walking distance of attractions such as the Altus Heritage House Museum and the Altus City Park, which includes a fitness trail.

Mount Nebo State Park

Mount Nebo State Park is just a few miles from the town of Altus and offers visitors their choice of 14 different cabins. All units offer fully equipped kitchens, queen-size beds, televisions, VCRs, fireplaces, wood-burning stoves, heating and air-conditioning, picnic tables, decks and views of the forest of the mountains. Some also feature Jacuzzi tubs. Attractions such as the Post Familie Vineyards are just 30 minutes away.

Ozark Moutain Meadows Ranch

Ozark Mountain Meadows Ranch can be found in the city of Ozark just a short drive from Altus and attractions such as Horsehead Lake, which provides visitors with water activities such as boating and fishing. The ranch offers one secluded cabin that features a view of the mountain from the covered porch, queen-size beds, a Jacuzzi tub, fully equipped kitchen, wood-burning stove, barbecue grill, television and DVD player. Guests can enjoy hiking and horseback riding trails and a fully stocked fish pond while they stay at the ranch.
