Tupelo is the headquarters for the Natchez Trace Trail, connecting Nashville, Tennessee, with Natchez, Mississippi. The National Park Service maintains numerous campgrounds along the Trail for hikers. Bicyclists cannot access the scenic trail but can ride on the parkway motor road. The park visitor's center in Tupelo provides Native American and civil war history. Tupelo Buffalo Park and Zoo, nearby, has hundreds of animals and a large buffalo herd.
