Cabins Near Anchorage, Alaska
Surrounded by six distinct mountain ranges, Anchorage is the largest city in Alaska. On a clear day, Mt. McKinley (Denali) can be seen from Anchorage even though it's 130 miles away. Mt. McKinley stands at more than 20,000 feet and is the tallest mountain in North America. At the base of the Chugach Mountains, Anchorage is a four-time All American City winner, as well as home to the start of the Iditarod, the world's longest dogsled race, every March. Also known as the "City of Flowers," Anchorage comes to life each spring as the city plants almost 500 flower beds.

Chugach State Park

Chugach State Park lies on the edge of Anchorage and is the third-largest state park in the United States. The park contains more than 500,000 acres of land that's perfect for hiking, biking, snowmobiling, dogsledding, camping, skiing and climbing. Three cabins are available for rent at Chugach State Park. The cabins sleep three to eight people and are equipped with wooden sleeping platforms, wood stove (for heat, not for cooking), table, chairs or benches, and a nearby latrine. If you rent a cabin, you should bring insect repellent (in the spring and summer); an air mattress or pad, as well as a sleeping bag; a gas or propane stove for cooking; and an implement used to purify water. Most public-use cabins have a nearby water source.
