Haines, Alaska Hotels

Haines, Alaska Hotels
Nestled in the Chilkat Valley, Haines, Alaska, originally was home to the Tlingit Indians, who called the town (known as Dei-Shu then) the "end of the trail." Abundant in resources, the Tlingit were able to spend more time on developing other skills and trading instead of just surviving. Haines was named for young missionary Francina Haines in 1879. Haines is the shortest gateway to Glacier Bay National Park. With a population of 2,400, Haines also has many artists in the area, producing art that is recognized around the world. The Chilkoot River provides a prime spot for fishing for five varieties of salmon, including King, Coho, Sockeye, Chum and Pink. There are also three lakes nearby for fishing and other recreational activities.
