Ridgefield, Conn., is a historic town founded in 1709 and the site of the Battle of Ridgefield, a Revolutionary War battle in 1777. A major attraction in town is the Mountain Workshop, where you can enjoy whitewater rafting, canoeing, rock climbing, biking, hiking and caving. Play a round of golf at the Ridgefield Golf Course and then relax in the evening at one of the area's fine French restaurants.

Bernard's

Bernard's offers fine French cuisine in a picturesque country inn setting. Perfect for romantic dinners, corporate events or even weddings, this Zagat-rated restaurant features an innovative menu, excellent service and an award-winning wine list. Enjoy the signature appetizer, the Hudson Valley foie gras trio: duck pate smoked with apple and ginger chutney. Signature entrees include the Duck Duo, which is roasted breast and leg confit with roasted figs, organic wild rice and Swiss chard, and the portobello-crusted filet of halibut with wild mushroom risotto and asparagus in a balsamic mushroom reduction sauce. Bernard's is open for lunch and dinner Tuesday through Saturday. It's also open for brunch and dinner on Sundays and is closed on Mondays.

Luc's Café

Luc's Café is situated in Ridgefield in a historic former blacksmith shop. In operation since 2001, it offers fine French cuisine and, in true bistro style, serves all items on the menu at any time of day. Enjoy outdoor dining in the summer on the flower-enclosed terrace. Appetizers include the French onion soup and the escargots in a light Pernod sauce. Entrees include grilled filet of salmon in a mustard sauce, rack of lamb and duck confit. Luc's offers authentic French live music on Wednesday evenings. Open for lunch and dinner Monday through Saturday. Closed on Sundays.

Le Château

Just two miles west of the center of Ridgefield stands the Tudor-style manor building that houses Le Château. The historic estate was built in 1907 for the Rev. William S. Rainsford by J.P. Morgan. Take in the Hudson Valley sunsets from the floor-to-ceiling windows while enjoying an impeccable French feast. This Zagat-rated and award-winning restaurant offers tantalizing appetizers and sumptuous desserts. Try the Chateaubriand for two with béarnaise sauce or the filet of red snapper with red onions confit, black rice and cilantro butter. Le Château is open for dinner Tuesday through Sunday and is also open for Sunday brunch.
