A sleepy town in central Louisiana's Natchitoches Parish, Natchez lies 68 miles southeast of the Shreveport/Bossier City metro area. The 2000 census clocked its population at just 583 people. Natchez is included in the Cane River National Heritage Area as well as the Louisiana African-American Heritage Trail. The nearest lodging is seven miles north, in the neighboring town of Natchitoches, where you'll also find Northwestern State University.
