Melbourne, Florida, is a mid-size city that has earned the nickname "The Harbor City." Melbourne was originally a training facility for Confederate soldiers during the American Civil War. Today, Melbourne enjoys access to swimming, diving, boating and sailing, making it a choice vacation destination for the outdoor traveler. RV visitors to the area have many good options for beach front RV parks for convenient access to the water. Melbourne was named in honor of John Hector, an Englishman who had spent much of his life in Melbourne, Australia.

Sebastian Inlet State Park

Sebastian Inlet State Park offers RV guests sites along the sunny, sugar sand beaches of Melbourne. The park has several RV pull-through sites and has 30-amp electric, water and sewer hook-ups. There are picnic tables and fire rings at the sites. Showers and private toilets are on the grounds. Glass containers are not allowed on the grounds or beach.

Snorkeling, scuba diving and swimming can be done right from the site beaches. Pets are allowed, but they must be leashed at all times, including on the beach.

Wickam Park Campground

With lakefront beaches--and just minutes from the sugar sand ocean beaches--the Wickam is a water lover's park. RV sites have 30- and 50-amp electric, water, sewer and cable TV hook-ups. Wi-Fi Internet access is also available. Three lakes provide plenty of beach for guests to enjoy.

Other on-site amenities include an archery range, a disc golf course, a dog park, a guest house with kitchen, barbecue stations, private toilets, a shower room and a coin-operated laundry. Pets are welcome. Surfing, swimming, boating and snorkeling are all available.

Melbourne Beach Outdoor Resort

The Melbourne Beach Outdoor Resort is part of the Outdoor Resort chain of RV resort campgrounds. The resort offers full hook-ups at sites that can accommodate RVs to 40 feet. Hook-ups include water, sewer, cable TV, Wi-Fi and 30- or 50- amp electric. Many sites enjoy beach views. On-site amenities include lighted tennis courts, an oceanside swimming pool and a guest use recreation room. Hot showers, private toilets and a coin-operated laundry are on the grounds for guest comfort and use. Pets are allowed, but they need to be leashed while on site.
