Summit is a small, upscale town in New Jersey's Watchung Mountains about 20 miles from Manhattan. Parks and recreation areas that are great for biking, hiking, walking and running abound in this area, including Hidden Valley Park, Passaic River Park, South Mountain Reserve, Memorial Park and Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge. Summit has a diverse mix of restaurants as well that will suit any palate.

Fiorino Ristorante

Fiorino Ristorante offers upscale Italian dining in an elegant atmosphere. Fiorino boasts excellent ratings, with an 85 percent approval approval rating from restaurant review website Urban Spoon, and a glowing review from Zagat 2009, which offered that Fiorino had, "excellent food served in an elegant atmosphere." Fiorino is known for their gourmet entrees, including the veal chop, porcini mushroom risotto and Gorgonzola-filled agnolotti. They also have an extensive wine list and fantastic desserts such as cappucino mousse and the creme brulee trio.

Souffle Restaurant

Souffle Restaurant is a bistro-style French eatery that offers a sophisticated casual dining atmosphere (there are no jeans allowed). Zagat called this restaurant a "hidden gem." Souffle offers Mediterranean food with a French flair, according to its website, and specializes in classic French dishes such as roulade de poulet, beef bourguignon and crispy duck. Souffle is a great place for a romantic dinner but even if you can't find a baby sitter there is also a kids menu with ravioli, penne pasta or chicken. For dessert, you should of course try one of the many souffles.

Brix 67

Brix 67, with its eclectic menu of diverse international cuisine, is an upscale restaurant that has a romantic, warm ambience fueled by candlelit tables. They are famous for their pizzas but also offer variety, including chicken Parmesan, pan-seared Chilean sea bass, filet mignon and healthy menu options like whole wheat fettuccine, tilapia and lo mein. To top off your meal, you can choose from a list of nearly 20 desserts, such as warm apple pie or tiramisu. For the little ones there is a kids menu featuring pizza, chicken fingers and burgers, and Brix 67 features an extensive international wine list that comes with recommended food and wine pairings.

Roots Steak House

Roots Steak House is an upscale, fine dining steakhouse that focuses on big, bold steaks and big, bold red wines. Their bronze hanging lamps and mahogany bar exude an old-world steakhouse feel. Meat is the name of game here and some of their specialties include the 16-oz. strip steak, 14-oz. bone-in fillet and 48-oz. porterhouse steak for two (or four). Roots has the standard sauces such as horseradish cream, au poivre, hollandaise and béarnaise to accompany your dish as well, and their wine list is long, with a special emphasis on California cabernets.
