Paris, Ark., is an outdoorsman's haven. Just two hours west of Little Rock, it's the perfect spot to explore the Ouachita Mountains, including their highest peak---the 2,800-foot Mount Magazine. Here, at the highest point between the Appalachians and the Rockies, you can hike, bike, rock climb, hang glide and more. For water lovers, nearby Paris City Lake and Cove Lake offer swimming and boating.

The Lodge at Mt. Magazine

There's no better way to see the highest point in Arkansas than from the balcony of the Mt. Magazine State Park Lodge. Every single one of the 60 guest rooms offers a view of the Petit Jean River Valley and Blue Mountain Lake. Seventeen rooms have spa tubs, perfect for a romantic or relaxing getaway. You can also enjoy the indoor pool with children's swimming area, gift shop, game room, fitness center and high-speed Internet access. An unexpectedly romantic venue, the lodge's Skycrest Restaurant has fantastic views, a two-story chimney and fireplace, and modern cuisine.

The Winery Bed & Breakfast

While you're exploring the great outdoors, make time to explore Arkansas wine country---by staying at this charming venue, owned by the vintner of Cowie Wine Cellars. Each of the two suites is individually named and decorated, with amenities like cathedral ceilings, whirlpool baths, private entrances and stained glass windows. After the complimentary continental breakfast, you can take a tour of the wine cellar and let the Cowie family show you how they handle every step of the winemaking process, from nourishing the grapes in the arbor to painting the wine barrels with their own artwork.

St. Mary's Mountain Country Inn

In addition to a beautiful Ozark getaway, Paris is also in the heart of Arkansas wine country. This quaint family-run inn in Altus (22 miles from Paris) is within walking distance of shops, restaurants and wineries in downtown Altus. It's small---just three guest rooms---but that's part of the charm. The guest room balconies all overlook the gardens below. Although modeled on a European inn, the rooms do have private bathrooms, along with air-conditioning and TV. In the morning, you can have breakfast downstairs with the other guests or in private in your room. Everything served at St. Mary's Mountain Country Inn is locally grown and sourced, from the free-range chickens to the fresh fruit cobbler.
