Dodgeville was originally established by explorer Henry Dodge and 40 miners who traveled to the area in search of profitable ores. Today the town is a busy suburban community popular for its sandstone bluffs and rolling farmlands. Visitors to the area engage in water sports on the 220-acre lake in the Blackhawk Lake Recreation Area, cross-country skiing or biking at the Blue Mounds State Park or visiting the nationally recognized Folklore Village. The House on the Rock Inn sits adjacent to a freshwater lake and is nestled among rolling hills. This spacious hotel features rustic wood tones and exposed natural rock throughout the interior.
