New Orleans is s a great destination for people who want to explore the food, music, culture and history of this 300-year-old French Colonial port. The city is surrounded by water with the Mississippi River to the east, the Gulf of Mexico to the south and the second largest saltwater lake in the United States, Lake Pontchartrain, to the north. Swamps and canals to the west round the circle, making this a prime spot to enjoy watersports and Louisiana's wetland ecology. The hotel rates that follow are those listed for early 2010.
