Nellie Hill Preserve also is a popular place for bird-watching; it is a natural habitat for dozens of migratory birds. Hikers will enjoy the many trails at Schaghticoke Mountain, which is minutes from downtown Dover Plains. The town offers numerous local restaurants.

Old Drover's Inn Restaurant is located in the historic Old Drovers Inn, which was built during the 18th century and is one of the oldest continuously operated inns in the United States according to Fodor's Travel Guides. The casual restaurant pleases divergent family palates by offering seafood and traditional American dishes, including hamburgers, chicken sandwiches and fried fish. In addition, the cheddar cheese soup has been a menu staple for over 60 years according to Fodor's.
