Hotels in Palmer, Alaska

Hotels in Palmer, Alaska
Once you've settled into your hotel in Palmer, you can plan day trips to scenic Hatcher Pass and the abandoned buildings at the Independence Mine State Historical Park. The Hatcher Pass area, an alpine paradise, provides panoramas of the Talkeetna Mountains, hiking trails and gold mine artifacts. Or you can drive to the Matanuska Glacier, an hour away, and explore it on foot. The Mat-Su Miners, in the Alaska Baseball League, provide a fine way to pass a long summer night.

Colony Inn

You can view Lazy Mountain, with its recommended hiking, and Pioneer Peak from the Colony Inn. The three-story building offers 12 rooms. Lunch and a Sunday brunch are served in the first-floor dining room. The building dates from shortly after 1935, when President Roosevelt sent 200 farm families from the Midwest to Alaska as part of New Deal Relief. Women teachers stayed at the building. The Colony Inn, which does not accept pets, does have cable TV and wireless Internet. Visit the Valley Hotel, a five-minute drive away, to pick up your room key.
