Ortonville is a small town located on the border of Minnesota and South Dakota. But what Ortonville lacks in population, it makes up for in activity. In 2009, they paved a new bike path which connects the Big Stone County Wildlife Refuge to the southern end of nearby Big Stone Lake. Big Stone Lake is great for fishing, boating, and swimming. There is an RV park located on the lake shore for those that want to take advantage of the water. In addition, Ortonville's Lakeside Park was changed to a Regional Trailhead. Ortonville also has an 18 hole golf course, which hosts many tournaments throughout the summer and early fall.

Econo Lodge

The Econo Lodge is conveniently located near many of Ortonville's attractions, including The Big Stone National Wildlife Refuge, Ortonville Municipal Golf Course, Big Stone Lake State Park, and the Big Stone County Museum.

The motel provides a free continental breakfast and free coffee. The hotel has a safe and offers copy and fax services for guests. Rooms have cable television, free high-speed Internet and wireless Internet access, and free local calls. Rustling Elms Resort

Located just north of the town of Ortonville is the Rustling Elms Resort. Located on Big Stone Lake, it provides access to swimming and boating. There is also a basketball court on the premises. Rustling Elms also offers cottage rentals. Because these cottages were originally family vacation homes, there is ample room to accommodate guests. The cottages have multiple bedrooms, a fully-equipped kitchen, and a living room perfect for relaxing and watching television.

Big Stone Lodge

Big Stone Lodge is an alternative to typical motel lodging. It is a rental home with a 12-person capacity. There is a full kitchen, so you can cook your own meals. All bedding and linens are supplied. They also have a supply of games for a family game night. Big Stone Lodge has air conditioning, a television, and a DVD player for watching movies.

Located about 12 miles west of Ortonville lies Milbank, South Dakota. Because Ortonville is such a small town, travelers might want to seek out lodging options here.
