Highland and the nearby area offer a variety of activities for those who enjoy the outdoors. Golf courses are nearby. For those with something more rustic in mind, this is a great place to enjoy mountain climbing, hiking, kayaking, rafting, and biking. The local lodges and cabins are a great place to retreat after a long say in the great outdoors.

Mitchell's Lodge & Cottages

The same family has managed Mitchell's for three generations. There are several accommodations to chose from: one or two bedroom private cottages or stay in one of rooms or suites in of the two lodges. All of the accommodations have an authentic mountain lodge feel---with wood-paneled interiors, soft carpeting and comfy quilts adorning all of the beds. Regardless of which accommodation guests chose, they have access to the beautiful pavilion overlooking the mountains, complimentary continental breakfast, cable TV and high-speed Internet. All of the Mitchell cabins and lodges are pet friendly.

Skyline Lodge & Restaurant

All of the rental Cabins at Skyline Lodge have two or three bedrooms. The cabins are built with wrap-around balconies, providing great views of the nearby greenery. All of the cabins have laundry facilities, and the larger cabins have private Jacuzzis and hot tubs. For meals, guests can either take advantage of their full kitchens, or enjoy the restaurant in the lodge. In fact, guests renting cabins are encouraged to take advantage of the lodge facilities including a pool and newly refurbished tennis courts. The Skyline Lodge and cabins are situated on top of Flat Mountain, a remote area, and a short hike away from the Natahala National Forest.

Apple Mountain Rental

Managed by a real estate agency, Apple Mountain is located four miles from Downtown Highlands, and six miles to the Cashiers. The one level home, has been recently renovated and sleeps six. There are three bedrooms and two bathrooms. The family room is very spacious with access to a large, newly renovated deck. The deck can also be accessed from the two larger bedrooms. The furnishings are traditional, with comfortable country-home feel and a working fireplace. Apple Mountain is small community, with approximately twenty homes, a private three-acre park that has a playground. World-class accommodations are nearby, including a four-star restaurant and a luxurious spa offering visitors both indulgence and simple country living.
