Camping at Disney

Camping at Disney
Going to Disney doesn't mean you have to stay in a motel--camp at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort. With over 700 acres of pine and cypress forest to camp in, a camping trip to Fort Wilderness guarantees a trip surrounded by the beauty of nature. In true Disney fashion, camping at Fort Wilderness Resort offers more than just camping. The resort offers many recreational activities for the whole family to enjoy and is close to the Magic Kingdom Theme Park. Choosing to camp at Fort Wilderness Resort will leave everyone with a camping adventure they're sure not forget for a long time to come.

Camping

The campground at Fort Wilderness is located within a forest and the sites are shady and private. Once you check in at the Reception Outpost, you'll be able to drive through the park and pick out the site that you prefer and best meets your needs. Sites range in sizes, with each having a picnic table and grill. Fort Wilderness offers four types of campsites to choose from. You have campsites for tents and pop-up campers which have water and electricity. Also, there are campsites that have full hook-ups that provide water, electricity and sewer and premium campsites offering water, electricity, sewer and cable. Premium campsites are situated in the prime areas of Fort Wilderness. Prices normally range around 20 percent higher than what the average nightly stay is at a state or federal park.

Pets

Fort Wilderness Resort offers pet friendly campsites but there are restrictions. You'll need to make sure your pet has the proper vaccinations and you'll need to show proof when you check in. Also, pets are not permitted to sleep inside of tents or recreational vehicles that do not have air conditioning. You will have to keep your pet on a leash at all times unless they are at the Waggin' Trails Dog Park. Here you will be able to allow your pet to run free with his friends. There is also a kennel you'll be able to house your pet for the day or overnight, if you plan on visiting the Theme Park.

Activities

There is something for everyone at Fort Wilderness Resort. The resort offers horseback riding and pony rides. You can also journey through the park exploring on a carriage or wagon. There are various watercrafts you can rent such as canoes, peddle boats, kayaks, SeaRaycers and pontoon boats. You can also purchase bait and rent a fishing pole to fish in the lake. If you're into biking, you can rent a bicycle and explore the park. You'll even be able to rent an electric cart to go touring through the resort with. Hayrides are offered nightly for the whole family to enjoy. Swimming, hiking, tennis, horseshoes and volleyball are also some of the recreational activities the park provides.

Food

Located in the center of Fort Wilderness is the Meadow Recreation Area where you will find the Meadow Trading Post. Here you'll be able to find basic grocery items and a deli. There is also the Trail's End Restaurant and the Crockett's Tavern where you can get dinner or get a bite to eat. The Settlement Trading post also sells camping supplies, groceries and Disney souvenirs. All the dining facilities offer American food with prices ranging anywhere from $15 to $60 per meal.
