Restaurants in Columbus Circle, NYC

Restaurants in Columbus Circle, NYC
Columbus Circle is home to several of the most daring--and expensive--dining establishments in Manhattan. An area populated by travelers staying at the high-class Mandarin Oriental hotel, music lovers with tickets to Jazz at Lincoln Center, and foodies with expensive tastes, many of the restaurants nearby are in a class of their own.

Per Se

Per Se belongs to a select group of New York City restaurants serving as the flag bearers for New American cuisine. Located inside of the Time Warner Center, and owned by Thomas Keller (voted America's Best Chef by Time Magazine in 2001), Per Se presents meals that are meant to excite all of the senses. Presented with a meticulous attention to detail, dishes resemble artwork and use some of the finest ingredients available. The Chef's Tasting Menu includes "Oysters and Pearls"--a small dish of oysters and white sturgeon caviar--braised pork belly, and Nova Scotia Lobster for a grand total of $275 a person. Given the five-star ingredients cooked by a five-star chef in a five-star restaurant, expect your wallet to take a beating.

Jean-Georges

With three Michelin stars, it would be difficult to top the extraordinary menu crafted by Chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten. It would also be equally difficult to find a more expensive restaurant. With a background in French cuisine, Vongerichten adds Eastern influences into many dishes. He forgoes meat stock, replacing traditional ingredients with light broths and fruit creating flavors that are original and rich. The three-course prix fixe menu starts at $98 (although it features an egg caviar for an extra $25). Entrees include rabbit in a citrus chili paste, smoked squab with candied tamarind, and duck breast with an amaretto jus.

Robert@Mad

Located on the 9th floor of the Museum of Art and Design, Robert@Mad is as modern as any of the museum's exhibitions. Try to get a table by the window for an impressive view of Columbus Circle and Central Park South, otherwise there is equally comfortable contemporary lounge seating. American cuisine is given a Mediterranean influence on several entrees like the braised lamb shoulder with couscous and yogurt sauce. Dishes worth noting are the tagliatelle pasta dish with lobster, and the delicate but delicious poached halibut. The interior of the restaurant is a testament to modern design. A light installation by Jahanna Grawunder hangs from the ceiling producing a distinct glow over the restaurant whose interior was conceived by David Schefer Design.
