Maine is one of the most diverse states in the country. The southern coast has picturesque beaches with classic white sand that turn into craggy, rocky cliffs as you wind further north. Inland Maine is rife with mountains and forests, perfect for snowmobilers, hikers, bikers and skiers and the far north of Maine is flat and fertile, providing some of the best grown potatoes to the rest of the country. Portland is Maine's largest city, with nearly 250,000 people (1/3 of the population of Maine) in the metro area. It is full of shops, cultural attractions, farmer's markets, a diverse harbor area and beaches not far from the city center.

Portland Harbor Hotel

The Portland Harbor Hotel is a spa and resort, situated on Portland's Old Port district. Guestrooms boast beds with pillow-tops and 250 thread count sheets, down comforters with duvet covers and down pillows. All rooms and suites have TV and wireless Internet. Rooms feature soaking tubs and the option of a garden view overlooking the landscaped courtyard, or a hotel room decorated in French country style. Suites are decorated either in French country-style or with more modern decor and feature over-sized bathrooms with granite countertops and Jacuzzi tubs and fireplaces in some suites. All guests have access to the Town Cars on reserve for downtown travel, bike rental, Starbucks coffee in the lobby each morning, a fitness and business center.

The Danforth

The Danforth has been a Portland luxury staple for almost 200 hundred years. Classically-decorated and set right downtown, The Danforth provides spa-like comfort and complete city access. The cupola is the perfect place to watch the sunrise (or set). Step out the front door and you are on Portland's Spring Street, district with its art galleries, world class restaurants, unique shops and sea port. All rooms have a private bath, air conditioning, wireless Internet, hair dryer, TV and spa-quality robes. Most rooms have a fireplace. Black Point Inn

The Black Point Inn was built in 1878 and is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean on three sides. This resort is a 15-minute drive from downtown Portland and features everything a traditional beach resort offers, while still being close to downtown attractions. The resort has a swimming and beach club, tennis, trails for hiking and biking, miles of sand beach and an 18-hole golf course. All rooms and suites have water views and most have private decks. Other room amenities include cable TV, Egyptian cotton bathrobes, hair dryers, wireless Internet and Aveda bath products. Rates are based on a modified American plan, meaning full breakfast and dinner are served daily. Every guest has access to valet parking, morning coffee, tea and pastries served in the lobby, full concierge service, afternoon tea served in the lobby, and a geo-thermal heated swimming pool.
