The Best Women's Ski Coats

The Best Women's Ski Coats
The ski films of the 1960s, '70s and '80s featured women dressed in one-piece ski suits and short ski jackets. While these garments may have some sex appeal, they could hardly be described as "functional." Modern female skiers realize that skiing well requires appropriate equipment and clothing. The ideal women's ski jacket combines warmth with freedom of movement. It is breathable, waterproof and wind-resistant. Modern ski clothing manufacturers have even mastered the art of combining fashion with function.

Obermeyer Vesper Jacket

The Obermeyer Company of Aspen, Colorado, has made ski clothes since the 1940s. Obermeyer jackets are a blend of elegance and efficiency. The Vesper is an example. Its violet color makes a woman stand out in the pack, and its anatomical fit draws attention to a well-exercised body. It would be wrong, however, to consider this a ski bunny jacket. The Vesper comes with a lift ticket holder. Obermeyer's "Control Zone Ventilation" system consists of zippered vents in the underarms, which allow you to adjust the jacket for different temperatures. This seam-sealed jacket has a removable hood and a fleece chin protector.

Columbia Hayworth Jacket

Many people are aware of Columbia Sportwear's rugged, outdoor image, but few people realize that the company can be considered a "matriarchy." Gert Boyle's parents fled Nazi Germany in 1938. They opened a hat company, which later became a general sportswear manufacturer. Gert's husband took over the company, but after his death in 1970, Gert ran the show. In 1975, Columbia became the first company to introduce the Gore-Tex parka.
The waterproof, breathable and insulated Hayworth Jacket was inspired by 1940s fashions. It has a powder skirt, as well as draw-cord adjustable sleeves and hems. The jacket comes in plum, brown or black.

Isis Aura Jacket

Isis has been designing women's athletic clothes since 1998. The waterproof and breathable Isis Aura jacket has a feature that is not often seen in other ski jackets. Its hood is designed to fit over your ski helmet, thereby adding the wind resistance of the hood to the warmth of your helmet. The Velcro cuffs can be tightened during snowy conditions. Internal zip pockets keep your wallet dry.
