Thirty six mils from Tokyo, the city of Chiba is a ultra-urban suburb of Tokyo. Largely an industrial city, the busy port and bay views of Makuhari surrounded by the sea on three sides, the Port of Chiba has a mild oceanic climate ideal for hiking the area mountains and dipping in the hot springs. For winter travelers, Japan hosts more than 600 ski and snowboard slopes. For those who want an almost guaranteed white winter season, the first snowfalls of the season usually come in November and the majority of resorts are open in the month of December.

This luxury, four-star hotel in the city center, is an elegant downtown Chiba hotel. Located about four minutes from Kaihin Makuhari train station, the hotel is also nearby Maihama, home to the Tokyo Disney Resort. The hotel lobby is decorated with antiques and accented with art deco furnishings, Rooms are lavishly decorated, with white marble bathrooms, eloquent sculptures and spruced with fresh young palm trees. Many rooms show off the view of the Makuhari Bay and include a hot tub. The hotel also features an indoor swimming pool, spa and massage parlor. The New Otani Hotel

The New Otani Hotel is a colossal 418 room urban-chic hotel with a sporty, outdoorsy appeal. The hotel manages its own sports and relaxation facilities. The New Otani also has an indoor and outdoor pool, an indoor and outdoor tennis court, hot tubs, and bicycling facilities. The New Otani also operates its own art museum New Otani Art Musuem. While there are so many things to enjoy within (or just outside the hotel) the rest of Chiba City offers other incredible nature activities. Guests can enjoy hiking and touring the Yoro-keikoku Valley, including Chiba Prefecture's biggest waterfall. Another option is horseback riding: Sunshine Stables (k4.dion.ne.jp/~johba) offers both Western and English riding right on the beach at Chiba. After the ride, guests can enjoy the club's own picnic facilities.

With 84 rooms on 10 floors, guests at the Okkura Chiba Hotel can enjoy the postcard perfection of the Japanese landscape and Makuhari Bay in a high class luxury hotel. Hotel guests can choose singles, twin, double or deluxe double rooms and enjoy impressive skylines views and access to the spa, a heated pool, a sauna, and a private aromatherapy tub for women. For full workouts, the Okura's Relaxation Salon offers massage, facial treatments, and more. Rooms at the hotel offer air conditioning, international calling, and a minibar. The hotel also has an in-hotel restaurant and a traditional saki bar named Shochu. A 15-minute drive From Wangan Narashino Interchange and 40 minutes by express train from Tokyo Station. Standard double from $118 per (11,000 yen). In the Chiba area, guests can explore Mount Nokogiri-yama, the Nihon-ji Temple, and the Port of Hamakanaya.
