Wellsville, N.Y., is a picturesque city that sits among the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains and is bisected by the Genesee River. Visitors to the area appreciate the rustic, small town feel and enjoy participating in the annual trout derby, trying out the 18 holes of golf available at the Wellsville Country Club and taking part in the "Music on the Lawn" program at the Howe Library. The area is also home to an array of restaurants, featuring dishes to satisfy the appetites of visitors and locals alike.

Beef Hause

The Beef Hause is a locally owned restaurant that specializes in special recipe, slow-roasted beef. The restaurant, which claims to serve roughly 500 pounds of beef each week to hungry diners, features a brick front and large picture windows along with a small town diner feel complete with plush red dining chairs and booths. Although it specializes in beef, the restaurant offers a whole lot more than one protein option. The extensive menu contains dishes ranging from Italian favorites to Friday fish fry treats. The house specialty is the Beef On Weck, which is individually carved to customers' taste and can be ordered from rare to well done. All dishes are served with the popular kümmelweck rolls. To-go orders are accepted and can be made by calling the restaurant. The Beef Hause also offers three catering rooms, the largest of which can hold up to 85 people. A pre-planned catering menu is available for individuals using the catering facilities. Diners can enjoy the food at Beef Hause from 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday (as of January 2010).

Better Days Pub & Eatery

The Better Days Pub & Eatery is an Irish American restaurant serving diners in Wellsville. Better Days features a bar atmosphere and is decorated with dark woods and eclectic memorabilia. Shamrocks and Irish accents remind diners of the Irish Pub influence over the eatery. The restaurant offers a variety of food options, ranging from contemporary American favorites to classic Irish pub fare. Popular dishes include barbecue beef spare ribs with mashed potatoes, chicken wings and sheperd's pie. The restaurant features a rotating list of daily specials, allowing for more economical dining. The bar offers a full bar menu, including foreign and domestic beers, a selection of by-the-glass wines and a wide array of liquors. Better Days is also often the home of community events and gatherings. The eatery regularly hosts block parties throughout the summer months and is often the sight of sporting event viewing parties. L' Italia

L' Italia offers classic Italian flavors to diners in Wellsville. The restaurant, which is located downtown, features a décor that is a study in contrasts. Bright white paneling that comes up to chair-rail level around the dining room, and stark tablecloths accent the bold crimson and brown hues that grace the upper sections of the walls as well as the darkly stained wood bar. Diners enjoy classic Italian favorites, such as manicotti and chicken parmesan as well as the original house specialties, including the pasta Chicago and the portofino pasta. Diners can also choose from a selection of pizzas, sandwiches and salads. The restaurant features a wine list consisting of an array of by-the-bottle or by-the-glass wines as well as an assortment of beers and cocktails. Banquet rooms are available for those planning large gatherings. L'Italia is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday (as of January 2010).
