Hotels in Talkeetna, AK
Talkeetna, one of several towns in Alaska that claim to be the inspiration for "Northern Exposure," lies right on the railroad line between Anchorage and Fairbanks and 14 miles east of the road connecting the two cities. Halfway between Anchorage and the Denali National Park entrance, the town looks out over a valley where the Susitna, Talkeetna and Chulitna rivers meet. Gold miners arrived in the area in 1896, and today anglers, hikers and most of all climbers base themselves in Talkeetna, with its views on clear days of Mount McKinley.

Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge

While you can keep driving up the road and into Denali National Park, your best uninterrupted view of Mount McKinley occurs here, on the Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge deck, rather than in the rougher countryside closer to the giant peak. The lodge features a 46-foot-high river rock fireplace in the lobby. The 212 guest rooms offer mountain and forest views and several rooms are ADA-compliant. Activities available include flight-seeing, jet boat tours, fishing trips and sled dog tours. The lodge provides casual dining in the Base Camp Bistro and fine dining in the Foraker Dining Room, featuring traditional Alaskan seafood, house dry-aged steaks and game.
