Iberia Peninsula
The atmosphere is one of casual elegance at Iberia Peninsula, where groups tend to congregate to enjoy such specialties as the Rodizio, wherein the waiters will bring guests skewers of various barbequed meats until everyone is too full to go on. For romantic dinners, it is recommended to try the Parrilhada, a delicious seafood platter for two.

Taste of Portugal
Critics constantly peg Taste of Portugal as one of Newark's best Portuguese dining experiences. The chorizo and garlic shrimp both get high marks, but what really seems to please the crowd is the steak, which is cooked on a hot stone to guests' liking right beside the table. Those who aren't traveling by bike or car should also sample the sangria.

Iberia Tavern and Restaurant
The flagship Iberia restaurant was opened in 1926, making them the first Portuguese restaurant in Newark. Guests flock here to enjoy massive portions of Portuguese favorites, such as shrimp in garlic sauce, Paella á Valenciana and Portuguese sausage. A recent expansion means that there are now more seats than ever before; to celebrate, the restaurant has introduced a variety of lobster specialties to the menu.

Paleio Bar & Grill
Located in Newark's Ironbound district, the home to numerous Portuguese restaurants, Paleio Bar & Grill is one of the more popular choices. The word "paleio" means "happy chatter" in Portuguese, so that gives some indication of the laid-back, casual ambiance here--it is a popular meeting point for friends. Popular dishes include the shrimp and pasta in vodka sauce, grilled baby squid with asparagus and boiled potatoes, shell steak Grelhado and various culinary interpretations of dry salted codfish. Paleio also offers a lunch menu, which changes daily.
