Lamp Post Inn
The Lamp Post Inn has the reputation with local diners as being the best steakhouse in Middletown, per review comments on tripadvisor.com. The restaurant itself is unpretentious, with the atmosphere of a small-town diner. The menu is similarly unpretentious, featuring several varieties of steaks, as you'd expect, but also such American classics as pork chops, ham steak, meatloaf, and fried chicken. There are also some Italian dishes, such as chicken primavera, veal and chicken parmesan, and several types of spaghetti available. All items on the menu are priced quite reasonably, even the steaks. The Lamp Post is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, for which it's easy to get a table most of the time. The restaurant does suggest reservations for Friday and Saturday evenings and holidays. If you like to play poker, the Lamp Post has a free-roll Texas Hold'em tournament every Tuesday night with cash prizes.

Bratina's Steak House
Bratina's is situated in a 250-year old stone building that was farmhouse for most of its life, and the dining area is distributed throughout the old house's rooms. Dining in the room of a house gives the restaurant a cozy atmosphere of the type that reminds one of eating at home. Bratina's menu features mostly steak, but they also serve ham, turkey and chicken and other American-style favorites plus good seafood, including crab cakes that have the reputation of being excellent, per comments on dine.com. Bratina's is located adjacent to Harrisburg International Airport along the Susquehanna River and is a very short (less than 15-minute) drive from Hershey.

Hoss's Steak & Sea House
Hoss's, in a little borough right next to Middletown, is one of 14 family-oriented and family-owned chain restaurants, all of which are located in central Pennsylvania. These restaurants are popular statewide for having excellent food for the price. The menu features many steak dishes, from sirloin tips to filets, as well as chicken, ham and seafood items, all of which are reasonably well-prepared, and many of which cost under $10, as of 2010. Hoss's is probably best known, however, for its extensive salad, side dish and dessert bar.
During peak dinner hours, especially on Friday and Saturday nights, this well-liked restaurant can be crowded and noisy, just as any other restaurant catering to families would be, and it can take a while to get through the salad bar line. It can also take a while to get a seat, and there are no reservations taken at Hoss's. The restaurant provides a hallway inside the restaurant where the lines can form waiting to get to the cashier, where orders are placed before being seated. It's not unusual to see the line spilling out of the hallway into the parking lot on a busy night.
