Mammoth Spring, named after the largest spring in Arkansas, is situated on the Arkansas-Missouri border of the Ozark hills at the head of Spring River. This waterway is ideal for fishing and canoeing. Mammoth Spring State Park is in town and was created to recognize Mammoth Spring as a national natural landmark. In addition to the beauty of the spring, the park has areas to play and picnic and has a trail. Also in town is the Mammoth Spring National Fish Hatchery which has the world's only captive population of spawning Gulf Coast striped bass. There are many options for cabin rentals when visiting Mammoth Spring.

Southfork Canoe Resort

Southfork Canoe Resort is on the South Fork of the Spring River in the Ozark Mountains. Cabins can sleep 6 to 11 people, have satellite TV, kitchens with tableware and cookware. The resort supplies some bed linens and dish towels. Some cabins have fireplaces and all of them have river views. You can bring your pet but must have pre-approval from Southfork management. The resort offers several different canoe and kayak trips on the Spring River which range from 3 to 12 miles long. Some trips will go through whitewater rapids. The state of Arkansas designated the South Fork a Quality Smallmouth (bass) Stream which makes it an ideal fishing spot.

Riverside Resort Camp & Canoe

Riverside Resort Camp & Canoe is located on Spring River in the foothills of the Ozark Mountains. There are 16 cabins for rent. Regular cabins are fully furnished, have a full kitchen, bathroom with a tub and shower and satellite TV. Camper cabins have beds indoors and a barbecue grill, fire ring and water spigot outside. The resort has a grocery and tackle store. Being right on the Spring River will give you the chance to catch a variety of fish such as trout, bass, walleye and tiger muskies. The camp offers float trips down the Spring River by canoe, kayak or raft.

3 Rivers Outfitters & Cabins

The 3 Rivers Outfitters & Cabins is 16 miles away in neighboring Hardy, a quaint village in the Ozark Mountains. Rental cabins are rustic but have modern conveniences such as bathrooms, kitchens and cable TV. Some cabins are located on the Spring River. Three Rivers rents canoes and offers fly fishing trips. You can hunt for elk, deer and turkey in the area. You may just want to take in the view of the Ozark Mountain area and watch for birds such as Bald Eagles and the Ivory-billed Woodpecker which, before being spotted in the Ozarks in 2005, was thought to be extinct.
