Pizza Restaurants in Muncie, Indiana

Pizza Restaurants in Muncie, Indiana
Muncie, Indiana, home of Ball State University, is also home to the White River Bike Trail, as well as a broad sampling of pizza restaurants. Familiar chains include Dominoes, Papa John's, Papa Murphy's and Pizza Hut; however, specialty pizza restaurants are what add a spicy flavor of diversity aimed to please the collegiate crowd and the locals equally.

Mancino's Grinders and Pizza

Mancino's claim to being "a Muncie tradition" comes from the many BSU grads that flock to Mancino's every fall during homecoming weekend. Serving a variety of pizzas and grinders (hot, sub-like sandwiches), Mancino's most famous menu item is its "Mammoth" pizza, a whopping 24 inches in diameter. Mancino's is family owned and operated, another feature that makes this pizza restaurant a recommended stop for visitors.

Greek's Pizzaria

Greek's is another locally owned pizza restaurant located in the village at the edge of Ball State University. Founded in 1969, owner Chris Karamesines maintains that the longevity of Greek's in Muncie is due to his steadfast commitment to "using fresh vegetables, all milk cheese, and cooking it on Neapolitan, hand-tossed dough that is made fresh daily." Indeed, Greek's Pizzaria is well-known for its thick, chewy crusts. Another local favorite is Greek's breadsticks, swimming in a melted butter and garlic sauce.

Pizza King

Muncie's most famous pizza restaurant is Pizza King, with various locations throughout the city. Started in 1958, Pizza King has franchised only as far as the outskirts of the Muncie area. Limiting its expansion has helped secure Pizza King's place as Muncie's own hometown flavor. Also famous for delicious breadsticks baked in butter and garlic, Pizza King is most known for its edge-to-edge ingredients, thin and crispy crust, and square-shaped pieces.

Although all three specialty pizza restaurants have carry-out and delivery service, it is advised to eat in to capture the local atmosphere, an added bonus to the dining experience. "We always eat in the dining area" said Becki Clock, a regular Pizza King customer, "because the kids love to order from the telephones in the booths." The second best option is to order carry-out, and enjoy your pizza at Westview Park along the White River.
