The Best Ski Gloves for Cold Weather

The Best Ski Gloves for Cold Weather
The Mayo Clinic website explains that cold weather shunts the blood flow to your core, thereby increasing your hands' vulnerability to frostbite. You may have a warm spot in your heart for skiing, but cold hands can lead to discomfort---or worse---on the slopes. Furthermore, the poling techniques associated with alpine skiing put skiers at a disadvantage. Many gloves impede manual dexterity and interfere with proper poling mechanics. Fortunately, some manufacturers have mastered the art of making their ski gloves insulated, wind-resistant, waterproof and ergonomic.

Hestra Heli 3-Finger

Hestra manufactures gloves for the Swedish army. Their Heli 3-Finger's innovative design combines the warmth of a mitten with the dexterity of a glove. Mittens generally provide more warmth than gloves, but they make it difficult to grip the ski poles. The insulated, waterproof and windproof Heli 3-Finger has finger articulations at the thumb and the two adjacent fingers. A mitten design covers the ring and little finger, which you will not use in poling. The glove also comes with a removable, five-finger polyester lining. The glove comes in men's and women's models.

The glove uses a technology called "falcon grip," which articulates the fingers for maximum manual dexterity.
