Surrounded by lakes, Dallas has plenty to offer the outdoor enthusiast. Less than five miles from downtown, White Rock Lake has canoes and kayaks to rent. Right outside the city, Joe Pool Lake and Cedar Hill State Park have hiking and mountain biking trails on more than 2,000 acres of parkland.

Texas de Brazil

Traditional Brazilian cuisine meets Texan flair in this restaurant chain, which now spans over 8 states. The menu features meat cooked over an open fire pit, including Brazilian sausage, cuts of beef, chicken and pork. The salad bar area offers many specialty items, like surimi sushi, shrimp ceviche and buffalo mozzarella. Side items include Brazilian cheese bread and fried sweet bananas. The restaurant is elegantly designed, with rich red walls and dark wood accents. Large chandeliers provide ideal mood lighting for a romantic dinner or birthday celebration. Dress code is smart casual. Lunch is served on Fridays from 11-2. Dinner is served daily after 5.

Rafain Brazilian Churrascaria

First established in 1959 in their native Brazil, the Rafain family tradition has continued to Dallas. There are 16 cuts of meat available, all cooked on skewers over an open charcoal fire pit. Roasted pineapple, prepared the same way, is also available. Popular cuts of meat include the classic picanha, with garlic and spicy variations. The salad bar contains 45 items, with fresh vegetables and gourmet cheeses. There is a large selection of wine, to compliment any meal. Private rooms are available for an intimate dining setting. Rafain is open everyday for dinner, and lunch Sunday through Friday.

Fogo de Chao

Inspired by their Gaucho culture and history, two brothers from Southern Brazil created the Fogo de Chao churrasco in 1979. After gaining worldwide acclaim, the brothers opened a location in Dallas. There are 15 cuts of meat to choose from, all seasoned and fire roasted. Specialties include the beef ribs and picanha. Side dishes of cheesy bread and hot polenta are brought directly to the table. Before enjoying the limitless cuts of meat, patrons can explore the 30-item salad bar that includes imported cheeses, fresh vegetables and preserved meats.
The bar offers full service and the Brazilian caipirinha is the signature drink of the house. There is a wide selection of wines, with a popular South American collection. For dessert, the Fogo de Chão Signature Papaya Cream is the favorite.
