Bethel, Alaska Hotels
Accessible only by sea or air, Bethel, Alaska, is the regional hub for 56 native Alaskan villages. The city's population is approximately 6,000, making Bethel the largest community in Western Alaska. Bethel was originally settled by native Yup'ik Eskimos. Moravian missionaries arrived in 1884, and soon the town became an important trading center. Bethel, officially incorporated in 1957, is located in the Yukon Delta National Wildlife Refuge, and the area offers a wealth of outdoor activities, including hunting, fishing, hiking and skiing. The well-known sled dog race, the Kuskokwim 300, is based in Bethel.
