The town of Exeter is a small community near the seacoast of New Hampshire and only a short drive from Boston. It prides itself on its acres of wooded trails and its variety of cozy restaurants. It is also home to Phillips Exeter Academy, which has its own set of public trails. Nearby Henderson-Swasey Forest boasts an impressive 500 acres of forested land on which you can hike, bike, walk or jog. It connects to the Oakland Town Forest, and all trails are clearly marked.

The Load and Ladle

The Loaf and Ladle is a great home-style restaurant specializing in soups, chowders, breads and hearty sandwiches. It has an expansive selection of homemade desserts as well. It is a casual establishment with both indoor and outdoor seating areas that overlook a gorgeous waterfall stemming from the Exeter River. It is a mere four minutes from the Green Gate Camping area.

The 11 Water Street restaurant, open for brunch on Sundays, and lunch and dinner throughout the week, has a pleasing selection of both healthy entrees as well as those for more heartier appetites. It offers soups and salads. Entrees are slightly more expensive but worth it. The view of the river and waterfall make this establishment a pleasurable, relaxing place to sit down enjoy some good food.
