The first Caucasian visitors to what is now the city of Aberdeen arrived in the late 1800s. Built up around the developing railroad, the city boasts a colorful history that includes Sioux Indian tribes, white settlers and a significant railroad system that turned Aberdeen into the "hub city" of the Dakotas. Now home to Northern State University, Aberdeen has a population of roughly 25,000 residents who pride themselves on their Midwestern hospitality.
