Guests take off from their room to explore Rock Creek's trails, hike, bike or go horseback riding. Among the Shoreham's 836 rooms and suites are some Get Fit Guest Rooms with a motorized treadmill and "Get Fit Kit." All accommodations include marble bathrooms, fine bedding and plush bathrobes. Wolfgang Puck gourmet coffee and Tazo tea are provided with the in-room coffee makers. Within the hotel are a fitness center, sauna and outdoor heated pool. Massages, manicures, facials and pedicures can be arranged. The hotel has a restaurant, a gourmet coffee bar, a lounge and a poolside grill.

Four Seasons Hotel Washington, D.C.

The Four Seasons Hotel Washington, D.C. is in the midst of the upscale Georgetown neighborhood. It's only a few blocks from the Virginia line. From this location, guests can easily get to Great Falls Park and the George Washington Memorial Parkway. The scenic parkway gives visitors access to parks, trails and wildlife sanctuaries. The 222 guest rooms and suites at the Four Seasons have views of Georgetown or the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal. Rooms feature original artwork, designer touches and twice-daily housekeeping service. Bathrooms are made of French limestone or marble with deep tubs and a telephone. Guests have a choice of down or hypoallergenic bedding. The fitness club and spa take up three floors of the hotel. Included are a steam room scented with eucalyptus, an indoor saltwater lap pool and an aerobics studio. Personal trainers are available. The hotel's Bourbon Steak restaurant serves lunch and dinner.

Hay-Adams

This famous boutique hotel overlooks Lafayette Square and the White House. It was the first hotel in the world to receive the Luxury Eco Certification. From this central location, guests can get out of town for adventures in Virginia or Maryland; or, they can stay right in the city and go biking on the Mall. Washington's park-like Mall includes many of the famous monuments, memorials and museums. Several companies rent bikes for self-directed tours of the monuments. The Hay-Adams has served Washington visitors since 1920, and the original walnut paneled lobby, ornate molding and fireplaces are still there. The 144 guest rooms, suites and junior suites are decorated in elegant, soothing colors with custom European linens and marble bathrooms. Some rooms have balconies and fireplaces.
