Colfax, a town of approximately 2,880 residents, according to the city's official website, is located in southeastern Washington near the Idaho border and Washington State University in Pullman. Eleven parks are available to Colfax residents and visitors and offer opportunities to swim, walk, skateboard, or view a chainsaw sculpture. Other area attractions include four state parks within an hour's drive, three county parks within a thirty-minute drive, and Boyer Park and Marina on the Snake River.

Best Western Wheatland Inn offers 50 guest rooms on two floors located on Main Street near Highway 195, which leads to Pullman and Moscow, Idaho. Hotel amenities include indoor heated pool, business center with computer, fitness center, hot tub, truck and RV parking, and guest laundry. Children under age 13 stay free with a paying adult and pets are welcome with restrictions. Union Creek Ranch Bed & Breakfast provides a unique opportunity to stay as a guest at a working farm and cattle ranch. Hearty meals are provided and bedrooms in the ranch house are offered to guests, or RV hookups are available for those traveling. A fireplace and living room area provide space in the evening to relax or for quiet activities. During the day, activities available at the ranch include horseback riding, hiking, picnicking, fishing at the stocked trout pond, hunting or hayrides. Further away are opportunities to snowmobile or cross country or downhill ski in the winter or go boating in the summer. Rates vary according to season and desired accommodations, and payment is accepted by check or money order, but not credit cards.

The Siesta Motel claims to charge the "lowest rates in town" and rates remain the same throughout the year. The Siesta accepts pets with a fee, and rooms include wireless access, refrigerators, microwaves, cable televisions, coffee and air conditioning. The Siesta Motel requires 48 hours of notice to cancel a room reservation.

The Potting Shed Guesthouse offers accommodations on one of Colfax's historic home sites. The guest house features a bedroom with flat-screen TV and DVD, a living room with sofa bed and second TV, complete kitchen with breakfast supplies and bathroom. Also included are a desk with high-speed Internet access, a laundry room with ironing board and private fenced patio with gas barbecue. Pets are not allowed and in 2010 rates range from $119 to $159 per night, based on the chosen meal service.
