Located approximately 90 miles east of Jackson, Mississippi, Meridian sits on the 88-degree longitude line. It has a deep history tied to the railroads and during the Civil War, Gen. William Tecumseh Sherman burned much of the city to the ground. It is also known as the home of the "Father of Country Music" Jimmie Rogers. Visitors can enjoy the Meridian Museum of Art, Meridian Railroad Museum, Jimmie Rogers Museum and a handful of Civil War-era cemeteries, plantations and monuments. Outdoor enthusiasts can bike, swim, golf or visit the historical Dunn's Falls, a 65-foot waterfall that once powered a grist mill and manufactured Stetson hats.
