The original name of Bar Harbor, Maine, was Eden. As the largest town on Mount Desert Island, it has been a prominent vacation town for almost 150 years. Formerly the chosen resort town of the very wealthy (Rockefeller, Astor, Carnegie, and Vanderbilt among them), it is now the chosen vacation spot for thousands of visitors every year. There area a variety of shoreline footpaths and views and vistas to take advantage of, including the Shore Path, a 1/2 mile path established in 1880 that begins near the town pier and continues on along the eastern shore of Bar Harbor.

Emery's Cottages on the Shore give visitors a traditional stay in Bar Harbor. With 21 cottages located overlooking Bar Harbor, there is no shortage of privacy or views here. Simply furnished, each cabin comes with TV and refrigerator,s and 14 come with full kitchens. Most cottages are able to access the wireless Internet service. Coin-operated laundry is available on the grounds, as well as barbecue grills and picnic tables near the shore. Canoes and kayaks can be rented in Bar Harbor and launched from the Emery beach. Bicycles may be stored in their workshop, and there is also a service building for lobster and shellfish preparation.

Bar Harbor Cottages and Suites

The Bar Harbor Cottages and Suites are located just two miles outside of Acadia National Park and 4.5 miles to the downtown of Bar Harbor. The cottages are available in studio, one- and two-bedroom sizes and are fully equipped with kitchenettes, cable TV, private bath, air conditioning and heat. Most cottages have screened porches and will comfortably accommodate between one and six people. Linens and cooking utensils are provided in the cottages, and fresh towels and supplies are available each day. Guests are also welcomed with a basket of coffees, teas, chocolate and biscotti upon arrival.

Rose Eden Cottages

Friendly, cozy cottages welcome you at the Rose Eden Cottages in Bar Harbor. Located just four miles from Acadia National Park and 10 minutes from downtown Bar Harbor, the Rose Eden Cottages offer a wooded respite from tourist attractions. The cottages are 1/2 mile from Hadley Point Beach, a public saltwater beach. Each cottage is equipped with a TV, coffeemaker, microwave and small fridge while several feature kitchenettes or full kitchens and all allow pets. All are decorated in a simple, coastal style, and a few offer wood-burning stoves.
