Restaurants in Old Port in Portland, Maine
The Old Port section of Portland, the largest city in Maine, is one of most popular hot spots in the city with trendy bars, restaurants and nightclubs in a region filled with cultural and entertainment destinations. But the Old Port is also centrally located near Maine's most sought after recreation areas, the sea and the slops. The city is minutes from the Atlantic Ocean with swimming, sailing and camping spots, and Portland is also a short drive from the resorts of Sunday River and Sugarloaf, where you can ski and snowboard down the slopes. Many dining options await you while in the Old Port with most serving cuisine that features seafood caught fresh in the nearby waters.

DiMillo's Floating Restaurant

DiMillo's is an old car ferry that was converted to a floating restaurant in 1980 and is docked at Long Wharf in Portland Harbor. At DiMillo's, which serves lunch and dinner daily beginning at 11 a.m., guests will rise and fall with the tide and enjoy breathtaking views of the harbor and Old Port while dining on a menu that includes Italian dishes, the finest cuts of Beef and, of course, fresh Maine seafood.

For starters the menu features jumbo shrimp cocktail, crab cakes, Italian stuffed mushroom caps and steamed Maine clams as well as haddock chowder, New England clam chowder and lobster stew, each made fresh daily. Entree selections feature fried or broiled seafood, including haddock, whole-belly clams, native shrimp and sea scallops, or try the fisherman's platter, a combination of all four deep fried and served with onion rings. There are also steamed whole Maine lobsters, ranging in size from one pound to 2.5 pounds and larger, that can be stuffed with succulent lobster meat or crab meat for an additional charge. DiMillo's also offers lazy lobster, a dish with the lobster meat taken out of the shell and sauteed with butter and sherry.

DiMillo's features a dessert menu and has a full bar. Seafood dishes range from $18 to $24 while lobster selections start at $25 and vary depending on size. Other entrees range in price from $18 to $32.

Bresca

For those wanting something other than seafood, Bresca brings a taste of Western Europe to the Old Port with a menu that includes dishes inspired by Italy and France. The restaurant prides itself on having a small menu, which allows it to use seasonal ingredients and focus on the preparation of each item.

Opened in 2007, Bresca offers an intimate setting and is one of the most popular choices for romantic dining in the Old Port and the entire city. For starters diners can enjoy chorizo and gorgonzola stuffed dates or spiced mixed nuts served with marinated olives and picked Sparrow Arc farm pumpkin. Lighter fare options include Foie Gras Cru, shaved fresh lobe with red wine preserved prunes and toasted baguette, or Porchetta Tonnato, which is cold roast pork, roast garlic and tuna aioli, capters, anchovy, basil and lemon, as well as daily soup and salad options. Entrees at Bresca range from $22 and up. Bresca offers an expansive wine list, with many French, Spanish and Italian varieties, and daily dessert offerings.
