Cafe Verona
Sitting in the upscale Independence Square, Cafe Verona offers a varied Italian menu focusing on fine meat and fish dishes. Among the specialty dishes are Veal Saltimbocca, which comes wrapped in Prosciutto di Parma and topped with a hard-boiled egg and Marsala sauce; and Manzo Spiedini, which features pieces of filet skewered with zucchini, potatoes and onions. The restaurant is decorated with a dark wood interior and many Italian works of art, including a large recreation of "The Birth of Venus" which dominates the interior. Cafe Verona also offers an antipasto menu for appetizers.

V's Italiano Ristorante
Surrounded by a grape arbor built to remind the owners of their Italian vineyard roots, V's Italiano Ristorante features both an open dining area and private rooms in its classy, well-decorated interior. Their menu is replete with pasta and meat dishes, including Kansas City strip steak. There are a few dishes listed as family favorites, including Osso Bucco, a 12-ounce veal shank with vegetables; Meat Balls col Sugo di Nanna, which features four meatballs in tomato sauce; Italian Sausage col Sugo di Nanna; and Vitello Siciliano, a breaded veal cutlet with mushrooms and tomato sauce.

Garozzo's
A Kansas City-area institution with four locations. Garozzo's in Independence is located a few miles away in the suburb of Lee's Summit. The restaurant has a traditional Italian menu, but is known for its signature dish of Chicken Spiedini, which is chicken breasts marinated in Amogio and topped with bread crumbs, then skewered and charbroiled. Other interesting parts of the menu include six separate veal dishes, as well as Bistecca Pernicci--a dish with two four-ounce filets served with a pair of jumbo shrimp in a white-wine lemon-butter sauce. The Lee's Summit Garozzo's mirrors the upscale, Italian decor of the original Garozzo's in Kansas City.
