Cherokee, North Carolina, received its name from the Cherokee Indian tribe that once inhabited the land. The town still pays homage to the original Native American landowners through annual Cherokee inspired ceremonies. The area, which lies on the outskirts of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, is composed of a combination of mountains and streams. Visitors can explore these geological feature by participating in popular pastimes including hiking, rafting and fishing. The Best Western Great Smokies Inn sits within easy driving distance of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, the Blue Ridge Parkway and Harrah's Casino. The nearby Blue Ridge Parkway offers a plethora of activities perfectly suited to lovers of the outdoors including hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding.
