Hostels on the Alaska Highway

Hostels on the Alaska Highway
The Alaska Highway officially begins in Dawson Creek, British Columbia, and ends 98 miles south of Fairbanks in Delta Junction, Alaska. However, most travelers use connecting roads to create a journey from Seattle to Fairbanks, a distance of 2,313 miles. Despite exaggerated horror stories, most of the road is paved and reasonably well-maintained, making it a popular choice for travelers. Hostels are plentiful throughout the Yukon Territory and in Alaska. Choose campgrounds or motels when traveling through British Columbia, which has few hostels.

Beez Kneez Bakpakers--Whitehorse, YT

Located in Whitehorse, Yukon Territory, the Beez Kneez Bakpakers is a friendly stop, offering such small touches as free coffee and tea 24 hours a day. Guest birthdays and other special events are celebrated to the hilt.

Both dorm beds and private rooms are available in the main house. Two cabins outside provide additional private rooms. Kitchen and living room facilities are clean and well-maintained. Restroom, shower, refrigerator and laundry facilities are large enough to comfortably accommodate all guests.

Free wireless Internet access, guest computers, fenced front and back yards and a large patio with barbecue grill make up for the lack of televisions in the house. Board games and books are available for guest use. The hostel is located within easy walking distance of downtown. There are no guest lockers, although the large rooms provide plenty of floor space for stashing items.
