Riverhead is a small town located in Long Island, N.Y. The town offers outdoor enthusiasts a variety of natural facilities, including more than nine community parks that contain playgrounds, miles of walking trails, picnic benches and gazebos, and dozens of recreational fields. In addition, tourists can swim and fish in the nearby Atlantic Ocean. Riverhead features a large Polish population, and Polish delis and restaurants are abundant throughout the town. Managed by a Polish chef, this restaurant features a variety of Polish classics, including potato pancakes, golomkis, cheese blintzes, stuffed cabbage, kielbasas, and potato or cheese pierogies. The restaurant also offers rare Polish beers. Entrees are very affordable, and waitstaff speak both English and Polish. The restaurant is conveniently located a third of a mile from the Riverhead bus stop.

Birchwood

Another popular Polish restaurant in Riverhead is Birchwood, which specializes in authentic Polish-American and Eastern European cuisine. Established in 1929, Birchwood features Polish specialties as kielbasa and sausage, stuffed cabbage, and cabbage and noodles. American favorites, including hamburgers, sandwiches and calamari, also are available. The restaurant has an old-city, pub-like feel, with low lights and music. The dress code is casual. Birchwood offers lunch and dinner seven days a week.
