The Berkshires of western Massachusetts are a four-season outdoor travel destination. Blantyre

Set on a European style estate built in the early 20th century, Blantyre has been named the No. 1 small hotel in the United States by Conde Nast Traveler's Reader's Choice Award in 2009. Green ivy creeps over the main house, a majestic chateau that houses eight guest rooms and suites. Nearby, the equally elegant Carriage House feature five rooms and five suites. Rooms are decorated with Victorian flair, and the extensive grounds provide guests with opportunities for tennis, ice-skating, hiking, cross-country skiing and snow-shoeing. An outdoor heated pool, hot tub and sauna are on-site, and breakfast at the hotel's on-site restaurant is included in room rates. In the evening, the main house's ground floor is transformed into an exquisite gourmet restaurant where five-course meals are served and male guests are required to wear jacket and tie. The hotel is not far from October Mountain State Forest, and there is plenty to do both on and off the estate during all four seasons.

The Yankee Inn in Lenox is in the heart of the Berkshires. The hotel offers special ski, stay and dine packages in conjunction with Jiminy Peak, Butternut and Bousquet.
