The Best Men's Wetsuits

The Best Men's Wetsuits
The ideal men's wetsuit acts as a second skin and should not feel like a hindrance when engaging in water sports that require speed and flexibility. Wetsuits keep you warm in cold water and should be virtually free of potential leaks at the seams, ankles, wrists and neck. Most men's wetsuits will take time and repeated use to mold to the contours of your body, but some suits are a better immediate fit and offer more benefits.

O' Neill Psycho II

The O' Neill Psycho II men's wetsuit is both flexible and durable. This wetsuit is ideal for use in cold water and chilly weather. Some styles of the O' Neill Psycho II do not have seams on the back or knees in order to improve flexibility, and those that are present are liquid seams made of silicone and minimal stitching to keep the wetsuit waterproof. The Psycho II features a zipper on the back and an internal rash vest to prevent water flushes, along with a fleece lining at the chest for warmth. Most O'Neill Psycho II wetsuits are a snug fit around the neck, back and buttocks to allow freedom of movement, as if the suit is a second skin. The average cost of an O'Neill Psycho II wetsuit is between $300 and $400 as of December 2009.

Gul Contour

The Gul Contour men's wetsuit is a year-round suit ideal for board surfing, windsurfing, kite surfing and other water sports. The design of the Gul Contour wetsuit features liquid-sealed, super-stretch blind-stitched neoprene that makes for a snug fit around your muscles. This gives the suit an ideal fit and flexibility for most men's body types. The seal at the neck is smooth and comfortable and does not become abrasive from repeated uses of the wetsuit. The Gul Contour features smooth skin panels at the back and chest with interior liquid seams to resist wind chill. The rolled design at the ankles and wrists resists cold water flush. Protective tape at common stress areas provides further strength. The wetsuit suit is less flexible and resistant to water flush than the O'Neill Psycho II, but the cost is lower, often between $100 and $200 as of December 2009.

Orca Apex

The Orca Apex men's wetsuit is ideal for speed swimming because of its light weight and extra-buoyant neoprene. The Orca Apex features AirLite body paneling, which contains air cavities within the neoprene to provide extra buoyancy that other suits lack. The AirLite body paneling also helps the wearer by providing extra balance and keeping the legs from dragging while swimming. Most Orca Apex wetsuits cost between $300 and $400 as of December 2009.
