Aspen
If you're looking for variety, Aspen is hard to match. The resort has four mountains, each offering a different type of terrain. Buttermilk and Snowmass are good places for those with little skiing experience or for those with families. Meanwhile, Ajax and Highland offer much more challenging slopes, excellent for those who consider themselves intermediate or even expert skiers.
Winter Park
Winter Park is another great place for families. It is located close to Denver, making it an easily accessible resort. Winter Park offers skiing lessons for children starting as young as age 3, as well as parent-child skiing programs.
Steamboat
Steamboat is a popular place to ski in Colorado for those intermediate-expert skiers. The resort is renowned for its super dry champagne powder snow. The snow at Steamboat is believed to contain 70 percent less moisture in it than usual. Another reason to visit Steamboat, and why it is so popular amongst expert skiers, is that it offers some of the best tree skiing in the state.
Crested Butte
Crested Butte is another Colorado ski resort best left for the experts. While there are some beginner and intermediate trails to be found there, Crested Butte has more double black diamond trails than any other Colorado resort. Crested Butte is a much more rugged, outdoorsy resort than resorts like Vail or Aspen. It doesn't have the variety of social activities that those resorts offer. What it does have is a lot of interesting terrain and nearly 500 acres of advanced trails.
