Sparta is a town in Sussex County, N.J., with lakes, mountains and farmland. You can go hiking in the Delaware Water Gap, the Appalachian Trail or Historic High Point or go swimming and boating in Lake Mohawk. Within five miles of Sparta, you can go camping, swimming, boating, fishing and hiking in Swartswood or Hopatcong state parks. When visiting Sparta, you can also choose to dine in various restaurants.

Krogh's Restaurant & Brew Pub

Krogh's Restaurant & Brew Pub serves appetizers, homemade soups, salads, cold and hot sandwiches, half-pound burgers, chicken, beef, seafood and pasta entrees, gourmet pizzas and south-of-the-border Mexican selections. You can order "Krogh's Famous Nachos Supreme," tomato beef soup, bean taco salad, hot roast beef sandwich, twin lobster tails, sizzling fajitas and fettuccini Alfredo. A kids' menu and dessert menu also are available as well as a selection of fresh, handcrafted beers. Free Wi-Fi access is available as well as valet parking on Fridays and Saturdays. Hours of operation are Monday to Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 9 p.m. Krogh's Bar is open daily until 2 a.m.

The Homestead Rest

The Homestead Rest is a restaurant that serves American cuisine. Items on the menu include appetizers, salads, sandwiches, burgers and entrees. You can order items such as sweet potato fries, homemade tater skins, a turkey club sandwich, saloon-style fish fillet sandwich, grilled lemon pepper chicken, pasta dishes and pizza. The Homestead Rest has a two-pound burger; if you eat it in 45 minutes or less, your name will be included in the Homestead Hall of Fame Album and you will get a T-shirt for accomplishing the feat. You can order for dine in or take-out. Hours of operation are Sunday to Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., Thursday until 10 p.m. and Friday and Saturday until 11 p.m.

Mohawk House Restaurant

Mohawk House Restaurant has a bar and lounge, dining rooms and private rooms. The restaurant serves seasonal American cuisine made from scratch. From the dinner menu, you can order items such as Nantucket Bay scallops, black angus filet carpaccio, butternut squash soup and grilled Berkshire pork chop. From the lounge menu, you can order items such as chicken and corn quesadilla, Gruyere cheese fondue, "The Famous Mohawk Burger" and stone-oven pizzas. A dessert and wine menu are also available. Attire is smart casual. Hours of operation are from noon to closing. Private rooms can be reserved for special events.
