The state capitol of Indiana, Indianapolis, is a sprawling metropolitan area filled with shopping, museums, dining and theaters. There are also many opportunities to participate in outdoor recreation. Bikers, in-line skaters, walkers and joggers can check out the 10.5 mile Monon Trail, which runs along a former railroad line. Major Taylor Velodrome is seasonally open for bicyclists to experience track-style riding. Seating in the velodrome also provides a great view of the downtown skyline. When you're craving Japanese food in the Indianapolis area, several selections are available.

Mikado

Mikado is in the heart of downtown Indianapolis, in close proximity to many museums. In operation since 1997, the restaurant was the first to offer Japanese cuisine in the area. Focusing on both traditional Japanese dishes and French-Japanese fusion, menu options are quite varied. The atmosphere is casual, yet sophisticated and offers a nice ambiance in which to dine. Select from the sushi or dinner menu. The restaurant offers a variety of nigiri, maki and sashimi. Dinner menu selections include the standard chicken teriyaki and the not-so-standard Unaju, which is broiled freshwater eel.

Fujiyama Steakhouse of Japan

Fujiyama Steakhouse of Japan, located on Indy's south side by I-465, has been in operation for over 30 years. Known for its entertaining cooking presentations, the atmosphere is fun and family friendly. Food is prepared at your table on a grill, hibachi-style. All lunch and dinner options come with soup, salad, rice, green tea and vegetables. Dinners also come with a shrimp appetizer. Choose from teriyaki chicken, fish, steak, scallops, filet mignon or shrimp, and watch as your meal is prepared before you by a trained chef. The restaurant also offers a sushi bar and a selection of cocktails.

The relaxed and casual atmosphere of nakedTCHOPSTIX makes for a great place to unwind after a day of hiking the local parks. Located in the trendy arts district of Broad Ripple, many local shops are close by. The restaurant's sushi bar offers an impressive selection. For something plain, try the avocado roll or the tuna roll. For something different, consider the Crunch Munch roll with krab, spicy mayo, shrimp and tempura chips or the maui roll with shrimp tempura, cream cheese, asparagus, mango and avocado. Those with a big appetite may want to consider a bento box, which is served with soup, salad, rice, vegetables, an appetizer assortment and the entrée.
